Cable Scores Big On Thursday Nights

FOR YEARS, NBC WAS THE master of the Thursday domain. Then, CBS loaded up with "Survivor" and "CSI" and pulled ahead in the venerated 18-to-49 demo. Last season, ABC moved smash "Grey's Anatomy" to the night--the latest sign of how much networks covet success there with all those dollars from movie advertisers, automakers and retailers looking for a weekend lift.

Upfront: Discovery Unveils Shows Focused On Danger

WHILE MANY TV NETWORKS HAVE gone smaller in their upfront presentations this year, Discovery Networks unveiled a slew of upcoming TV series in a massive series of announcements.

Several new shows from the mothership Discovery Channel will continue to seek the drama in some dangerous jobs--made famous by the success of its "Deadliest Catch" series, which features the treacherous waters of the Bering Sea that fisherman face in their effort to catch Alaska King Lobster.

HGTV Series Design Record Ratings

‘Design Star II,’ ‘Deserving Design’ Lift Net To Bevy Of Viewership Marks

The penultimate episode of HGTV Design Star II crafted the second highest primetime rating in the network's history.

The Sept. 9 installment of the reality series delivered a 2.3 household rating from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research data, a performance topped only by the concluding episode of HGTV Design Star, which notched a 2.5 mark on Sept. 10, 2007.
